Is it a good idea to reduce the duration of internship to six months by curtailing time period spent in all the long postings of Medicine, Surgery, OBG, and Community Medicine. The reasons in support of the argument that comes to my mind are listed below: 2–3 months long postings are too little to really master these subjects 2–3 months long postings are too much for an orientation of how things work in department and hospital It would reduce the duration of the longest UG course  It would spare 6 months time before the next NEET-PG and students can sit and read for the exam during this time, probably this may increase the sincerity to learn clinical skill among interns, who would be assured of time to read It would increase the number of vacancies of Junior Residents  It would benefit financially as well.
