Please help me get a better grip of this. IPT is recommended for all People living with HIV, both by NACO (6 months) and WHO (36 months preferably). IPT can help clear off the latent TB infection hence preventing disease. However, there is evidence (which I will link at the bottom) that re-infection rates are really high in high burden settings (like India?), especially among those who are HIV positive. In that case, how beneficial is it? We give IPT to a healthy (non-active Kochs) HIV positive person for 6 months. He/She doesn't develop TB for the next 2 years maybe.
But can get re-infected and develop the disease out of this re-infection. Isn't it? Does that mean we should repeat IPT after every few years?
