The lacrimal sac is a key structure in the tear drainage system, located in the medial corner of the orbit within the lacrimal fossa. It collects tears from the upper and lower canaliculi and channels them into the nasolacrimal duct, which opens into the nasal cavity. Lined with mucous-secreting epithelium, it helps maintain smooth tear flow and ocular surface hydration. Blockage or infection of the lacrimal sac can cause dacryocystitis, leading to pain, swelling, and excessive tearing.
