Tension gripped Hospicio, Margao, on Wednesday morning, after a group of protesters, enraged over the death of a 22-year-old patient in the hospital, went on a rampage alleging medical negligence as the cause of death, damaging furniture and breaking glass panes of the cabin of the medical superintendent. The protesters also blocked the main road outside the hospital for some time. The police registered an offence against unknown accused, though no arrests were made until late evening.
Hospital sources said that Akbar Gazi, a resident of Curtorim, was admitted to the hospital at around 6.15 am after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness.
