There is a scarce Indian data on the incidence of alcoholic hepatitis. However, surveys in rural and urban population point increase in the number of cases of alcoholic liver diseases every year. The purpose of this article is to discuss current challenges in the diagnosis and management ofalcoholic hepatitis. Alcoholic liver diseases (ALD) include spectrum of diseases ranging from simple steatosis to alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH), progressive fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. studies indicate that there is a dose response relationship between the amount of alcohol consumed and the risk of ALD.
