Palindromic rheumatism is a rare inflammatory condition and a precursor of rheumatoid arthritis , with about a half of the patients progressing to the disease. Due to the rarity of the condition, so far little research on the topic has been done. This article discusses the causes, symptoms, and treatment of palindromic rheumatism. Palindromic rheumatism is characterized by episodes of arthritis or para-arthritis leaving no residual or radiographic changes. About 33% of the people who have palindromic rheumatism eventually develop rheumatoid arthritis, which does cause permanent joint damage.
