A 64-year-old female was to undergo incisional hernia repair in 2 weeks. Here are some notes made during her pre-surgery check up: Patient History She is known to have atrial fibrillation and is on warfarin. She had recently experienced exacerbation of her chronic obstructive airway disease, for which she is on antibiotics and one week course of prednisolone (30mg). This treatment is expected to finish just a couple of days before the surgery. Examination She is a thin woman with previous midline laparotomy scar. Chest appears clear and the heart sounds are normal.

Abdomen examination confirms a large midline defect in the abdominal wall. A hernia is easily reducible ad non-tender.
