Dialysis patients have a higher perioperative mortality in comparison with the non-end-stage renal disease population. Therefore, dialysis patients require increased medical support and care during surgeries. This article gives an overview of the preoperative evaluation and postoperative management in dialysis patients. The higher rate of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients is attributed to many factors like a high incidence of coronary artery disease and myocardial dysfunction, high rate of perioperative fluid and electrolytes disturbances, increased bleeding complications, and poor blood pressure control.
