An ongoing study by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has revealed that over 75% doctors have faced violence at work. According to experts, the police and hospital administration need to take the issue of doctors' security seriously, ensuring that offences are registered under the Doctors Protection Act whenever assaults on them take place. Resident doctors in state - and civic-run hospitals are vulnerable to such attacks because, in cases of emergency, they are the first to see to patients.
