Bleeding is a common adverse event; subsequently, the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). It can arise as a complication of the index procedure or impulsively during the antithrombotic treatment for secondary prevention. Hemorrhagic complications significantly influence the diagnosis independently from their timing and have been associated with an inferior quality of life.
Furthermore, anti-thrombotic therapies are now becoming more potent than in the past, and an upsurge in hemorrhagic events can effortlessly be predicted in clinical practice with advanced drug combinations. International guidelines recommend careful evaluation of the bleeding risk, to lower the risk of the upsetting consequences of hemorrhagic events with the simultaneous effort to maintain ischemic protection.
