Recently I was invited by a group of young medics to address them on the most rewarding moments of my more than four decades old association with the medical profession. The invitation itself came as a pleasant surprise ; it was so far removed from the invites I usually receive where I am asked to elaborate on some academic topic or matters related to contemporary medicine and its parameters. However I tended to regard it as a positive development as I have long wondered why is it that we are so reluctant to analyse the coordinates of the emotions that tend to govern our professional activities .
