A Hyderabad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed a hospital and its consultant neurologist to jointly and severally pay ₹1 crore in compensation and ₹50,000 toward legal expenses for negligent treatment of a 30-year-old PhD student who died four days after suffering a massive stroke. The Commission held the hospital and its consultant neurologist liable for deficiency in treatment following the patient's death. The student was found unconscious at his university hostel on August 17, 2020 and was taken to the hospital.

The Commission found that the hospital had identified the need for mechanical thrombectomy, but failed to provide the necessary intervention within the relevant therapeutic window.
