Non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA) are the second most common type of pituitary tumor. Generally, surgical removal of the tumor is the first treatment choice. However, sometimes radiation therapy or drug treatments are sparingly used due to serious side effects such as headaches, nausea, pituitary damage or injury to the optic nerve. On the other hand, some clinicians believe that drug therapy or radiation therapy should be offered to prevent tumor growth.
