The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court has recently directed the medical and health service departments, to make sure that doctors submit computerized medico-legal reports along with original handwritten ones. This typed report is required for facilitating the court of law, in the interest of administration of criminal justice. Despite the fine imposed by the court, doctors have not been recording medico-legal and post-mortem reports in clear handwriting. The reports in poor handwriting are illegible and undecipherable by advocates or judges.

Thus, doctors were required to appear in court for deciphering the report for adjudication. According to the division bench of justice, calling a doctor in court just for reading the report does not make any administrative sense.
