Researchers have identified triptans , a class of antimigraine drugs, to be useful in reducing appetite and enhancing weight loss in mice. They introduced six different triptans into mice fed on a high-fat diet and observed changes in their weight and appetite for 24 days. Mice on a daily dose of frovatriptan reduced 3.6% of body weight while mice not on triptans gained 5.1% of body weight. The researchers also investigated the mechanism by which frovatriptan was inducing weight loss and glucose metabolism.

Triptans, frovatriptan, in particular, is an antimigraine drug that has the potential to be used for reducing appetite and controlling weight gain. This study also gives direction to establish interventions that target serotonin 1b receptors to manage obesity. Do you think interventions targeting serotonin receptors can be useful in the treatment of obesity? ##Reference## Li, L.,โ€ฆ
