Despite having so-called Universal Precautions against Acquired Infections, we see that health care workers keep getting infected in our hospitals. Recently, I observed that three members of the staff in a private hospital tested positive for Tuberculosis. Long time back, I had met two doctors (Pathologists ) who were HIV positive and on enquiry I was told that infection could have been contracted while doing Autopsies in unsuspected patients. Firstly, you do not find every item of the protective kit in every HCO.

Secondly, the quality of the available items is so poor that it really does not protect, at the most giving psychologic feel of well being. Thirdly, their usage time is so prolonged that it becomes useless and non-protective after fixed hours.
