The other day a colleague shared a report of a patient with incidentally detected adrenal mass. The patient has a fairly large mass in the left adrenal gland which was detected in a CT Scan done for other reasons. What was interesting was a note from the treating doctor which said ‘Please do a CT guided biopsy/FNAC of the adrenal gland’. Lucky for the patient, the patient decided to take a second opinion before going for the intervention which was suggested by the treating doctor.
Thankfully the patient landed in the safe hands of my endocrinology colleague. Before I move ahead, I would like to place a disclaimer that the purpose of this article is not to ridicule a doctor of another specialty but to highlight a common mistake made by doctors with regards to adrenal mass.
