Malnutrition increases the severity and mortality of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), one of the leading causes of death in children. Low birth weight, malnutrition, and lack of breast-feeding are important risk factors for pneumonia and mortality in developing countries. Nutritional intervention is the key to reduce CAP mortality.
