According to the new Ministry of Health and Family Welfare draft rules, it is mandatory for e-pharmacies to register with a central authority and they are prohibited from selling medicine such as narcotics, tranquilizers and psychotropic drugs that affect the mental state of the person. Several reports evidenced the sale of fake medicine online. Therefore, the government has tightened regulations to confirm the authentication of e-pharmacies.
According to this draft rule, the Drug Controller General of India will issue licenses for a three years and e-pharmacies can be regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945 as well as the Information Technology Act 2000.
