Disorders of the skin such as acne vulgaris present as lesions on the face, back, neck, and chest, typically at the onset of puberty. As per the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD), acne contributes to over five million disability-adjusted life years. Not only do skin disorders compromise the esthetics, but they also disrupt the psychological wellbeing of those affected. Skin conditions like acne, psoriasis have largely been attributed to microbiome load, hormonal imbalances, or genetic predisposition.
The topical or systemic treatments known so far target the respective causes except for those manifesting due to gene variations.
