Obesity and smoking are the two major risk factors for several dreadful diseases reported worldwide. Although there is a lot of awareness about the irreparable harm caused by these two factors, very few people quit tobacco or adapt the healthy lifestyle modifications which can improve their overall health. In this regard, recently, a local health committee in the UK announced a controversial policy that plans to ban access to routine, or non-urgent, surgery- for an indefinite time- in the obese and smoker patients until they improve their health status.
