A prospective cohort study published in Clinical Medicine Insights: Endocrinology and Diabetes evaluated the prevalence of non-thyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) and determinants of mortality among 120 adults admitted to the medical intensive care unit (ICU) at a tertiary referral hospital in northeastern Tanzania between October 2024 and March 2025. Triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were measured within 24 hours of admission, and NTIS was identified in 23.3% of patients.
