Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used medications even by pregnant women. Consistent findings support the elevated risk of miscarriage due to NSAIDs use in early pregnancy. A cohort study was carried out which included 1097 pregnant women, who were at a median gestational age during enrollment, 39 days.
Based on the usage three cohorts were framed: (1) subjects who used NSAIDs (2) subjects who used acetaminophen (3) subjects who hadn’t used NSAIDs. NSAIDs usage in pregnancy demonstrated the statistically significant elevated risk of miscarriage when compared with acetaminophen users (indication control subjects; adjusted hazard ratio, 1.45; 95% confidence interval, 1.01–2.08) and unexposed control subjects adjusted hazard ratio, 1.59; 95% confidence interval, 1.13–2.24).
