Obstructed defecation occurs in a major portion of patients suffering from chronic constipation. Repeated stretching of pelvic floor musculature and nerves due to childbirth, problems with rectal sensory perception and psychological factors has been implicated in the pathogenesis of obstructed defecation syndrome. The management of obstructed defecation syndrome (ODS) is mainly conservative and mainly consists of fiber diet, bulking laxatives, rectal irrigation or hydrocolontherapy, biofeedback, transanal electrostimulation, yoga, and psychotherapy.The current article features about management strategies for obstructed defecation.
