Measles also known as rubeola, is both congenital and acquired. It is caused by a single-stranded RNA virus of genus Morbillivirus in the Paramyxoviridae family.

The virus is highly contagious transmitted directly or the aerolization of nasopharengeal secretions to the mucous membrane of the conjunctiva or respiratory tract of susceptible individuals.
