Ophthalmic trauma is a significant yet often underestimated contributor to preventable vision loss worldwide. To better understand its global impact, a multinational retrospective study assessed injury patterns, presentation timelines, and visual outcomes using data from the International Globe and Adnexal Trauma Epidemiology Study registry, including 8,238 patients across 12 countries. Among patients, 78.5% were male with an average age of 31.4 years. Closed-globe injuries were reported in 56.9% of cases, while open-globe injuries made up 34%.

Alarmingly, 70% of cases presented more than 12 hours after injury. Visual outcome analysis revealed that 30% experienced a best-corrected visual acuity worse than 6/60 and 7% exhibited no light perception.
