During my internship, I was rotated through the Nephrology department for a fortnight. The Nephrology professor - an affable and extremely courteous man in his mid-thirties was well known for his astute clinical acumen. He still is. He was a favourite among us interns and his patients alike. His patients would come in droves every day for his consultation, waiting for him even if it was not his scheduled clinic day.
The wards would be full with the demand outweighing the capacity. What was remarkable about his practice was that he knew every patient’s story. He would even remember the weekly Blood Urea/Serum Creatinine values of each and every patient of his. He would just glance at the blood work and say offhand whether the patient’s condition is improving or deteriorating. I would have to look into the case histories to compare new and old values to come to the same conclusion.…
