Uveitis is a leading cause of blindness in children under the age of 16. Due to its diversified array of clinical presentation and difficulty in management, pediatric uveitis remains a challenge to the ophthalmologist. This article focuses on the causes of uveitis in children along with approaches in the evaluation of this entity. Pediatric uveitis is a cause of significant ocular morbidity and severe vision loss found in 25-33% of cases. In children, the difficulty of an early diagnosis may worsen the visual prognosis.
The different incidence of the presumed or defined etiologies in the various ages is probably responsible for the better classification of uveitis in childhood.
