The National Medical Commission of India has issued draft guidelines for hospitals interested in starting post-graduate medical courses. The highlights of the guidelines are as follows: The hospital should have a minimum of 200 beds, and 75% of them should be occupied throughout the year for in-patient care. 15% of beds should be dedicated to ICU and HDU. Four mandatory functional departments should include biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, and radio-diagnosis.
There should be an increase in the facilities, faculties, and latest equipment that should be procured for PG medical training. The medical equipment should be the latest and per the curriculum requirement for PG medical courses. An average out-patient attendance should not be less than 50 for broader specialties like general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, etc., and should be at least 25 forβ¦
