Piriformis syndrome or back pocket syndrome is a neuromuscular disorder characterized by hip and buttock pain. The symptoms a re observed when part of the sciatic nerve is entrapped, compressed, or irritated by the piriformis muscle. It is often misdiagnosed and remains unrecognized due to common somatic pathologies. The precise diagnosis is often based on the thorough neurologic history and physical assessment.
