Every year on 10th May is marked to raise awareness of lupus, an autoimmune disease globally. Lupus refers to types of inflammatory autoimmune diseases in which body's immune system attacks its own healthy tissues which result in malfunction of various organ systems. Lupus occurs in women more commonly than men i.e.

around 90% of the affected population. Lupus is considered as a rare disease in India with a point prevalence of 3 per 100,000.
