Synopsis Diabetic retinopathy is a vision-threatening, microvascular complication of diabetes. It is also considered as the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. Lipid-lowering therapies have previously been found to have a positive role in controlling diabetic retinopathy. However, it is unknown if statin therapy can delay or avert the development of diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and dyslipidemia.
