A recent open-access study by Zheng et al, identified key predictors of postoperative corneal edema in cataract surgery patients. In this cohort of 502 patients, advanced age emerged as a significant risk factor, while better preoperative visual acuity and i ntraoperative use of carbachol were found to be protective . Using these parameters, the authors developed a multivariate predictive model that achieved an AUC of 71.5% , indicating moderate accuracy in forecasting postoperative corneal edema. These insights could guide clinicians in preoperative counseling and intraoperative strategy selection to minimize corneal complications.
