Nowadays, lipid-lowering agents form the basis of treatment to reduce the risk of coronary events. Since there is wide variation in selection and use of these drugs, drug utilization studies help to evaluate and analyze drug therapy from time to time. This, in turn, can guide physicians prescribing practices and help in minimizing adverse drug reactions.

Study design: Patients of both genders in the age group of 18 years and above, who were prescribed with at least one hypolipidemic drug as monotherapy or in combination with other agents irrespective of the clinical condition, were included in the study. The risk assessment was done by analyzing the data of the patients collected in a pre-designed proforma which included patient’s demographic details, disease pattern, comorbidity, provisional diagnosis, laboratory investigation, and complete prescription.
