Lupus Nephritis is inflammation of the kidney that is caused by systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). It is an autoimmune disease with 60% of lupus patients develop lupus nephritis. SLE is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by loss of tolerance against nuclear autoantigens, lymphoproliferation, polyclonal autoantibody production, immune complex disease, and multiorgan tissue inflammation. The etiology of SLE is still unknown, however, during the last decade, advances in research has significantly increased knowledge about pathogenesis in lupus nephritis (LN).

Pathogenesis The pathogenesis of lupus nephritis involves a combination of pathogenic mechanisms.
