Post-operative pain remains one of the most challenging issues following hemorrhoidectomy. A study involving 30 patients evaluated the role of self-mechanical anal dilatation in reducing post-surgical pain and improving recovery. Patients who used a 33 mm anal dilator for 15 minutes daily over two weeks experienced significantly less pain compared to those who did not use dilatation.
The intervention also showed reduced oedema and bleeding , while temporary minor incontinence resolved within 15 days. By helping break the “p ain–sphincteric spasm–pain ” cycle, this simple, non-pharmacological method may improve postoperative comfort and overall recovery.
