A new study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases highlights a breakthrough in improving medication adherence among patients with HIV. Since irregular medication intake or discontinuation of therapy remains a major challenge, researchers developed a new patient assistance program aimed at enhancing treatment adherence. The program was designed by teams from the University of Aberdeen and the Academic Medical Centre, Amsterdam, with the goal of integrating adherence support into routine clinical care.
Professor Marijn de Bruin from the University of Aberdeen stated: “This is the first adherence intervention in HIV care that demonstrates both clinical and cost effectiveness.
