Following the severe air pollution in Northern India, the sales of an inhaler containing formoterol fumarate and budesonide have surpassed the sales of popular medications like an antibiotic tablet containing amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium and an antidiabetic drug containing glimepiride and metformin in India. According to a pharmaceutical sales report, the inhaler achieved Rs. 75 crore in sales in a week, compared to Rs. 73 crore for the antibiotic drug and Rs.69 crore for the antidiabetic drug.

As the Air Quality Index continues to worsen, particularly in Delhi, a Lancet study has revealed that 16 lakh deaths in India in 2021 were linked to air pollution.
