In a first-of-its-kind surgical intervention, a transplanted liver was reused by doctors at a private hospital in Delhi. The first recipient had an intracranial hemorrhage in the brain barely a week post-transplantation and was declared brain dead. His liver was used for a 54-year-old man who was reported as stable and recuperating well as per one of the doctors. Very few such surgical procedures are done globally and none have been done previously  in India.

The risk of rejection of organs in case of used organ transplants is higher, hence the doctors believe that the coming days will be crucial. Vitals will be monitored vigilantly, blood pressure will be controlled and anti-platelet agents will not be used for a few days.
