Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Bengaluru has announced plans to introduce self-defense classes for doctors, following a sharp rise in incidents of assault on medical professionals within hospitals. The move is part of a broader initiative to strengthen the safety and preparedness of doctors, particularly those working in high-pressure environments such as emergency wards and outpatient departments. The University, under the Vice-Chancellor, observed that doctors are increasingly exposed to situations where distraught family members of patients turn violent, especially in trauma and emergency wings.
