Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune condition that primarily affects proximal small synovial joints. Although there is no cure for RA, the right choice of medicines, effective diet management, and suitable lifestyle modifications can slow down the disease progression to a greater extent. Clinical manifestations of RA may include inflammation of synovial joints leading to damage of articular cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and bones, followed by loss of function.

The global prevalence of RA is approximately 0.5% to 1% among adults, whereas in India it is approximately 0.92%. As stated earlier, it is not possible to completely cure RA; however, a tailor-made treatment regimen can help improve the quality of life for RA patients (1-3).
