Preoperative oxidative stress is associated with greater postoperative complications in patients treated for gastrointestinal cancers . Serum free thiols are the most important non-enzymatic antioxidants, yet, their role in the prognosis of gastrointestinal oncosurgery has not been adequately investigated. A study was conducted to determine the influence of preoperative serum free thiols on the short-term outcomes of gastrointestinal oncosurgery and their prognostic value. Hence, preoperative serum free thiols are effective predictors for the short-term prognosis of gastrointestinal oncosurgery.
