Acute systemic toxicity from local anaesthetics is caused by high blood levels of these agents. This is avoided by using techniques that prevent rapid absorption. Symptoms arise from the central nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory system. Central nervous system stimulation occurs followed by depression. Garrulousness sometimes precedes other symptoms and should be regarded as an early warning.

Cardiovascular depression may be prominent. Arterial hypotension results from vasodilation and cardiac depression. Cardiac action may cease or become ineffective owing to depression of the myocardium or its conducting system. Inadequate ventilation occurs during the convulsion or following depression of the Central respiratory center. Please express your opinions on this.
