The opinion on the subject matter, that an MBBS graduate duly registered with a medical council should be allowed or not, to attend a specialty CME/conference on the subject matter of his interest. It might differ from person to person, state to state, specialty to specialty and also may differ from one association to another. However, some state councils have laid down clear rules and regulations around this. For example, Maharashtra Medical Council does allow a GP to attend any specialty CME registered under it.
But this is not followed by some of the professional associations in Maharashtra nor does MMC care to take any action on the defaulters as of now. Hence, there is a court case going on against MMC and a professional association, in Honorable Bombay High court, since Dec 2017, pertaining to this matter.
