A prospective cohort study across a community hospital demonstrated that a patient-centered education bundle, paired with a dynamic nurse education module and real-time alerts, significantly reduced missed doses of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis . Among 15,752 patients , missed doses fell from 12.9% pre-intervention to 9.3% post-intervention, while patient refusals dropped by nearly 40% . Importantly, this success—originally developed in academic centers—proved scalable and effective in smaller community hospitals lacking dedicated research infrastructure.

These findings reinforce that real-time feedback and tailored patient engagement can translate directly into safer, evidence-based VTE prevention.
