Lung cancer is one of the prevalent types of cancer in the world accounting for almost 1.6 million deaths every year. It is divided into two types namely small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. The small cell lung cancer is an aggressive type with dismal survival. In stage 1 and 2, approximately 20 to 30% of patients survive with 15 years of survival rate while in stage 3 and 4, it is found that only 7% to 8% survive.

On the contrary, the bulk of the population in the world suffer from non-small cell type with 50% to 80% of survival at stages 1 and 2 while around 13% and 10% in stage 3 and 4 at 5 years of survival rate respectively. The above numbers highlight the importance of early diagnosis in the management of lung cancer. This exclusive interview explains the clinical management of both types of lung cancer.
