Around 14.12% -25.2% of the Indian population suffers from migraine. The Incidence is higher in females (76%) than males (24%). Various treatment approaches are available for migraine. Nonpharmacological approaches, including mind-body interventions and cognitive behavioral therapy have Grade A evidence for migraine prevention. One such intervention, progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) therapy, is a deep relaxation technique that effectively controls stress and anxiety, relieves insomnia, and reduces chronic pain.
PMR is based on muscle tensing or tightening, followed by a relaxation phase. In combination with standard treatments, PMR is proven effective for headaches (HA), cancer pain, high blood pressure, and digestive disturbances.
