Steroids especially used topically are common day use as far as many ophthalmic disorders are concerned. They give magical results but a big question is their proper use and proper indication. We have low strength and high strength topical steroid drops but in most of cases, we have seen their abuse either patient self-medicates or gets these drops from the counter. So it is very important that they used to be used only when an experienced ophthalmologist prescribes them. Even if they are prescribed by a GP I feel dont use them.
I will give few examples, vernal k conjunctivitis is a very common ocular disorder where there is intense redness and itching when they are given topical high strength steroids they get immediate relief.
