Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, still a mysterious phenomenon, is not at all highlighted by we clinicians for the well being of the person to live his life without fear. In this era of the Damocles sword of CPA are we not supposed to inform our patient about SUDEP? It most of the time happens in persons with GTCS and uncontrolled seizures. So the first aim should be to control seizure frequency to reduce the rate.

The incidence rate is 1 in 4500 children and 1 in 1000 adults. The underlying reasons can range from autonomic disturbance to stress cardiomyopathy (Takotsubo). Even though it spoils the mental peace of the patient and family, in the case of uncontrolled seizures it's better to inform the relatives about this neglected risk to avoid a catastrophe.
