A 52-year-old woman with a complex medical history became paraplegic at 29-years of age when she experienced a spinal cord injury during a fall from a high wire as a performer in circus acrobatic act. Ove the past two decades, she has had many problems associated with her paraplegia, including urinary tract and wound infection, deep vein thrombosis, and pneumonia. Despite these issues, she achieved greater success in rehabilitation than expected and has excelled in her goals of becoming a diability counselor. The woman was recently diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer.

She has many conflicts with the oncology team in the initial diagnostic period and when considering treatment options. Today in the oncologic clinic, she refused to discuss completing an advance directive and has delayed initiating treatment. *This case is from Docplexus editorial team for educative purpose only Source:…
